Heckington Community Swimming Pool (HCSP) might be a new discovery or a familiar local amenity, but is without doubt a real local treasure.

As a Registered Charity run by a team of committed volunteers and supported by equally enthusiastic swimmers of all ages, HCSP has a very special place in the community providing a space to enjoy many of the positive activities fundamental to our wellbeing.

To maintain our unique place in the community our fund-raising events bring in much needed resources but local business sponsorship could also really make a difference.

Volunteers 2026

Heckington Community Swimming Pool (HCSP) is managed by a team of volunteers.

This team works together to provide a range of support to help organise, administer, maintain and supervise. To continue to open to the public during the summer months the pool requires upkeep and fund-raising throughout the year - even when there might be snow on the ground!

How It All Began - A Labour of Love

The early days of Heckington Community Swimming Pool

Heckington Community Swimming Pool is a cherished local facility, born from the vision of the first Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at St. Andrew's School. Their goal? To give every child the opportunity to learn to swim.

In 1974, through the combined efforts of parents, teachers, and volunteers from the local community, the pool was dug out and officially opened. Ever since, this invaluable resource has been run by dedicated volunteers, all committed to maintaining the original aim: providing children with a safe space to learn to swim and offering the community a recreational facility to enjoy.

Both past and present volunteers have worked tirelessly to keep the pool operational. During the open season, volunteers check the water quality twice daily, ensuring it remains safe for all visitors. Without any direct funding, the pool relies entirely on the goodwill of the community, volunteers, and users to remain open each year.

In 2024, the pool committee and volunteers hosted a pool side celebratory event in recognition of this golden anniversary which included local visitors who were actively involved in the planning and development of the pool back in 1974. It was fascinating to hear first-hand experiences of their endeavours to ensure that the pool was built.

However, the story of the pool also includes some difficult times and by 1985 the pool was closed, lying derelict due to lack of funding support. In need of major work if it was to be opened again, a small team of volunteers decided to take on the task of restoring the pool. Following their hard work and enthusiasm the pool has been a popular community feature ever since.

In 2026 the committee is still as committed to maintain and develop the pool and the site with new building, infrastructure and facilities financed by fund-raising events, from generous local donations and the revenue from swimmers throughout the season. As we prepare for our 52nd season, the hard work continues! Thanks to a combination of our fundraising efforts and support from Heckington St. Andrew's School, exciting new upgrades were carried out in 2025. These include completion of an additional accessible toilet and expansion of the kitchen area to offer a wider range of snacks. We are incredibly grateful to the local tradespeople who have already offered their support for these improvements.
