Our past

The pool is currently situated on land owned by the Diocese of Lincoln, given for educational purposes to the people of the Parish.

  • 1974 - Our swimming pool was built after fundraising by the PTFA and the local community. The Lincolnshire Education Authority funded the pool at this time.

  • 1980 - Funding was withdrawn from all school pools and Heckington pool was closed.

  • 1986 - The parents formed a swimming pool committee and 4600 was raised to re-open the pool.

  • 1987 - The pool re-opened in June, with funds guaranteed for 5 years.

The swimming pool committee continued to operate, manage, maintain and fundraise to provide the swimming pool as a school facility, but with increasing costs and limited funding the school felt it was unable to continue to be involved in the management and provision of the pool facility.

  • 2009 - The Parish Council lease the pool site and facility from the Diocese of Lincoln.

The existing swimming pool committee sub-let and operated the pool on behalf of the Parish Council as a community facility maintaining free access for school swimming lessons to the pupils of Heckington St Andrews School.

The present

Heckington Community Swimming Pool continues to be operated, managed, maintained and funded by a volunteer committee, answerable to the Parish Council, providing access to the school for swimming instruction for pupils of Heckington St Andrews School, but also providing a leisure and educational facility to the wider general population of Heckington and surrounding villages.

The future

Always looking to improve services and facilities,  Heckington Pool Committee are developing a business plan and proposal for the future of and improvements to the pool facility. If you would like to be involved, come along and join us on the Committee!
